When you install a DedTru Model PGF Centerless Grinding Fixture on a precision surface grinder, you create a centerless grinding system capable of highly precise ID/OD, infeed and plunge grinding. This centerless system is easy to use requires only a fraction of the time usually needed to set-up a conventional centerless grinder. The standard PGF Fixtures is designed for grinding parts with diameters from 1/4" to 1-1/4". However, these Fixtures can grind both larger and smaller diameter parts with special tooling. Using a Model PGF Grinding Fixture in conjunction with a standard surface grinder creates a unique centerless grinding system which can plunge grind both straight and round parts. The PGF Fixture is ideal for plunge grinding parts which need to be concentric from one diameter to another. These DedTru Fixtures also perform infeed operations which require extremely precise roundness.
DedTru Grinding Fixtures are manufactured on a rugged cast aluminum base which supports a precision Regulating Roll, Work Blade and Pressure Roll Assembly. The Regulating Roll is powered by a variable speed motor and is connected to our proprietary Spindle which forms the foundation for the DedTru Fixture's precision in straightness and concentricity. All of our DedTru's are manufactured with super high precision bearings which are uniquely installed so the Regulating Roll does not move, either axially or radially with respect to the base during grinding. These bearings virtually eliminate run-out since their running accuracy is the highest available in the industry (ABEC Class 9). Extreme care is exercised at Unison during the installation of the precision bearings to apply the exact preload necessary to maintain the close tolerances the PGF is capable of holding with respect to roundness, straightness and concentricity. The Model PGF Fixture can consistently grind parts within roundness accuracy of five millionths of an inch depending on your specific application and grinding environment.

The PGF Fixture was designed so the operator has the maximum access to the part being ID ground. This DedTru can also be used for OD infeed and plunge grinding. The PGF is supplied with a steel core Regulating Roll which is 2" wide and 5" in diameter. An optional 3" wide Regulating Roll is available upon request. Regulating Rolls can be quickly and accurately interchanged since they mount to an adaptor which fits the same spindle taper of both the 2" wide and 3" wide Regulating Rolls.

Every Dedtru is supplied with a work blade support which allows the operator to raise/lower the work blade for plunge applications. The operator can also adjust the pressure roll as necessary to hold the part.

DedTru's have a built-in manifold to supply coolant to the Regulating Roll and to additional outlets located on the Fixture. A wiper is also supplied to keep the regulating roll's surface clean.

Each Dedtru is supplied with a Sine Base for mounting the Fixture to your surface grinder. The Sine Base is furnished with four Cradle Blocks which allow the operator to tilt the Fixture toward or away from the surface grinder's column.
DedTru Fixtures are also supplied with a Power Supply which allows the operator to control the speed of the Regulating Roll as well as the forward/neutral/reverse switch. The Power Supply also includes a place for the operator top plug-in an optional Limit Switch Assembly.

The following are the Standard Accessories furnished with each PGF Fixture to allow you to grind parts with diameters of between 1/4" to 1-1/4":

(1)- 2" x 1/4" Carbide-tipped Work Blade
(1)- 1-1/4" Diameter Pressure Roll Assembly for plunge grinding

DedTru Fixtures are easy to use and a self instruction manual is provided. However, if training is requested, we can provide it at Unisons facility for a cost of $780 per day. Instruction is customized to each customer's specific needs with hands-on experience for the operator. Customers are encouraged to bring their parts with them so we can recommend the best approach for grinding them.

SUGGESTIONS FOR EQUIPPING YOUR SURFACE GRINDER FOR A DEDTRU FIXTURE

In addition to the DedTru Fixture, your surface grinder should be equipped with the following optional accessories which are available from Unison. These items are not included with your DedTru Fixture and must be ordered separately.

1. Splash Pan Assembly with Drain Hose (116-0000) - Specify make and model of surface grinder.
2. FilTru Tank Filter Assembly (079-0000)
3. FilTru Coolant Settling Tank (080-0000)
4. Limit Switch Control Assembly (077-0000) - Starts and stops the Regulating Roll to facilitate loading/unloading of parts.
5. Regulating Roll Dresser
6. Additional Work Blades for your specific application

Additional Options can be found in DedTru Parts and Products Brochure

THE SURFACE GRINDER
For precise grinding and the best part finish, your surface grinder must be of rigid construction. The base and column should be capable of absorbing the grinding forces with a minimum of deflection. Unison suggests you use a 3 horsepower grinding spindle and it should be adequately preloaded, both axially & radially, to prevent movement of the grinding wheel under varying conditions. The vertical, longitudinal and crossways must be in good condition and the slides should have non-measurable movement in the planes at right angles to their direction of motion. Should your current surface grinder not possess the above characteristics, Unison manufactures a Model 188 and Model 388 DedTru Grinding System which can be viewed now by clicking
