DedTru Fixtures

When you install a DEDTRU Model C and/or Model C6 Centerless Grinding Fixture on a precision surface grinder, you create a centerless grinding system capable of highly precise thrufeed, infeed and ID/OD plunge grinding. This centerless system is easy to use and requires only a fraction of the time usually needed to set-up a conventional centerless grinder. Both the standard Models C and C6 are designed for OD/ID grinding of parts with diameters from 1/4" to 1-1/4". However, these Fixtures can grind both larger and smaller diameter parts with special tooling.

Using a DedTru Fixture in conjunction with a surface grinder creates an unique centerless grinding system which grinds straight and round parts for thrufeed applications. The DedTru is ideal for plunge grinding parts which need to be concentric from one diameter to another. DedTru Fixtures also perform infeed operations which require extremely precise roundness.

DedTru Grinding Fixtures are manufactured on a rugged cast aluminum base which supports a precision Regulating Roll, Work Blade, Guide and Rest Plate (for thrufeed grinding) and Pressure Roll (for plunge grinding). A Spindle supports the Regulating Roll, driven by a variable speed power supply. Unison's proprietary Spindle design forms the foundation of the DedTru Fixture's precision in roundness, straightness and concentricity. Our method of applying preloaded bearing support for the Spindle assures the Regulating Roll does not move either axially or radially with respect to the base during grinding. In addition, this method of preloading the bearings does not introduce deformation in the Spindle. Most importantly, all of our DedTru's are manufactured with super high precision bearings which virtually eliminate run-out. The running accuracy of our bearings is the highest available in the industry (ABEC Class 9). The Model C and Model C6 Fixtures can consistently grind parts to a roundness accuracy within five millionths of an inch depending on your specific application and grinding environment.

Every DedTru is supplied with a work blade support which allows the operator to raise/lower the work blade and/or adjust/swivel the blade for thrufeed or plunge applications. The operator can also adjust the height of the rest plate/guide plate as necessary during thrufeed applications. DedTru Fixtures also allow the operator to adjust the pressure roll during plunge work.

The Dedtru is equipped with a built-in manifold to provide coolant to the Regulating Roll and coolant is also supplied to two coolant tubes as well as to the location of the Kooldress Cluster Diamond for dressing your grinding wheels. A wiper is also furnished with each Dedtru Fixture to keep the Regulating Roll's surface clean during operation.

Each DedTru is supplied with a Sine Base for mounting the Fixture to your surface grinder. The Sine Base is furnished with four Cradle Blocks which allow the operator to tilt the Fixture either toward or away from the surface grinder's column.

The Power Supply allows the operator to control the regulating roll speed, as well as the forward/neutral/reverse switch. The Power Supply also includes a place for the operator to plug-in an optional Limit Switch Assembly.

The following are the Standard Accessories furnished with each DedTru Fixture to allow you to thrufeed, plunge and infeed grind parts with diameters of between 1/4" to 1-1/4":

1 Carbide-tipped Work Blade for throughfeed grinding
1 Rest Guide Assembly

Your surface grinder.

For precise grinding and the best part finish, your surface grinder must be of rigid construction. The base and column should be capable of absorbing grinding forces with a minimum of deflection. Unison suggests you use a 3 horsepower grinding spindle and it should be adequately preloaded, both axially and radially, to prevent movement of the grinding wheel under varying conditions. The vertical, longitudinal and crossways must be in good condition and the slides should have non-measurable movement in the planes at right angles to their direction of motion.

When you install a DedTru Model PGF Centerless Grinding Fixture on a precision surface grinder, you create a centerless grinding system capable of highly precise ID/OD, infeed and plunge grinding. This centerless system is easy to use requires only a fraction of the time usually needed to set-up a conventional centerless grinder. The standard PGF Fixtures is designed for grinding parts with diameters from 1/4" to 1-1/4". However, these Fixtures can grind both larger and smaller diameter parts with special tooling. Using a Model PGF Grinding Fixture in conjunction with a standard surface grinder creates a unique centerless grinding system which can plunge grind both straight and round parts. The PGF Fixture is ideal for plunge grinding parts which need to be concentric from one diameter to another. These DedTru Fixtures also perform infeed operations which require extremely precise roundness.

DedTru Grinding Fixtures are manufactured on a rugged cast aluminum base which supports a precision Regulating Roll, Work Blade and Pressure Roll Assembly. The Regulating Roll is powered by a variable speed motor and is connected to our proprietary Spindle which forms the foundation for the DedTru Fixture's precision in straightness and concentricity.
